You Don’t Understand is a striking example of Jake Hall’s instinctive, emotionally charged approach to mark-making. Working in oil, Hal builds the composition through layers of pale, chalk-like pigment rubbed, dragged, and smeared across a deep ultramarine ground. The result si afigure that emerges only partialy from the surface apresence that feels unstable, dissolving, and caught mid-thought.

The work’s power lies in its tension between form and erasure. The suggestion of a head, shoulders, and body appears through gestural strokes rather than anatomical clarity, producing a ghostlike silhouette that seems to hover between materiality and disappearance. Text fragments scratched into the paint “You don’t…”, “under…”, “will…” read like fractured speech or abandoned attempts at communication. These unfinished words become part of the painting’s architecture, hinting at an internal struggle to articulate something that cannot fully surface.

Hall’s palette of muted whites and creams against the ink-like blue background intensifies the psychological atmosphere. The rubbed, powdery textures recall the urgency of Basquiat’s text-based works and the expressive scrawls of Cy Twombly, while the blurred forms carry an emotional weight akin to early Jean Dubuffet or late J.M. We aim to deliver all Artwork within 4 weeks of cleared payment. This window allows for professional archival packing, bespoke framing (where applicable), and specialist courier scheduling. We will notify you of any unforeseen delays.

Shipping: We arrange specialist art couriers for global delivery. Shipping costs and insurance will be quoted separately unless otherwise stated.

International Delivery: Entitled1 acts as the exporter. It is your responsibility to ensure the Artwork can be legally imported into your destination country.

COLLECTION

You may opt to collect your Artwork from our London office by prior appointment. Collection must occur within 14 days of notification that the Artwork is ready.

CANCELLATIONS

For online or telephone purchases only, UK consumers have the right to cancel within 14 days of receipt.

Exclusions: This right does not apply to:

• Artwork purchased or viewed in person prior to purchase.
• Bespoke, commissioned, or personalized pieces (including custom framing).

RETURNS

Artwork must be returned in its original condition and packaging. You are responsible for return shipping costs and must use a specialist art courier. We recommend insuring the return for the full value.

Price is inclusive of shipping and insurance unless otherwise stated.

Do the artworks come with Certificates of Authenticity?

Yes. All of our artworks are accompanied by a relevant, hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity. This verifies the originality of the piece and provides assurance of its provenance.

What if my artwork arrives damaged?

We kindly ask that you inspect your artwork within 48 hours of delivery. If your piece arrives damaged, please notify us within this timeframe and provide clear photographs of both the artwork and the packaging.

We take every possible care to ensure your artwork is packaged securely and arrives in perfect condition. However, in the unlikely event that damage occurs during transit, we will work with you promptly to resolve the issue as quickly and smoothly as possible.
