Pill operates as a deliberate act of cultural appropriation and reversal engaging directly with the pharmaceutical iconography canonized by Damien Hirst, while
stripping it of clinical detachment and re-injecting it with urgency, ambiguity, and consequence.

Where Hirst’s pills function as symbols of control, preservation, and the false promise of order sealed, catalogued, and anesthetized PILL fractures that language. The capsule is no longer a neutral object of salvation; it becomes a loaded artifact, suspended between remedy and threat. The surface vibrates with chromatic instability: red bleeds into blue, clarity dissolves into blur, suggesting dosage uncertainty, moral slippage, and the thin membrane between cure and collapse.

The stenciled directive “THIS END UP” reads simultaneously as instruction and indictment. It echoes the authoritative voice of medicine, logistics, and systems of trust, while quietly questioning who decides orientation, hierarchy, and outcome. In this context, the pill becomes a proxy for modern belief: swallowed without interrogation, consumed in faith, administered by institutions that promise balance while profiting from dependency.

Unlike Hirst’s vitrines where pills are frozen in perfection PILL insists on painterly instability. The oil surface refuses sterility; it breathes, smears, and vibrates. The object is isolated, monumental, almost devotional, yet unmistakably fragile. It feels less like a product and more like a relic from a future archive documenting how belief systems were packaged and sold.

Within the GODS MGMT program, PILL functions as a critique of modern worship where science replaces religion, branding replaces truth, and consumption replaces understanding. It aligns with the collective’s broader strategy: appropriating globally recognizable symbols, then destabilizing them until their authority collapses under scrutiny.

    PILL is not about medicine.

    It is about faith.

And what happens when faith is mass-produced.
