Great American Rodeo, GODS MGMT confronts one of the most enduring national myths: the performance of control. Set against a fractured United States flag, the silhouetted cowboy and bucking bull are rendered not as figures of nostalgia, but as symbols of volatility, spectacle, and risk embedded deep within American identity.

The flag traditionally a marker of unity and permanence is intentionally distressed. Its stripes bleed unevenly, its stars appear imperfect and hand-marked, suggesting a nation in flux rather than resolution. The rider, anonymous and shadowed, is caught in a moment of suspended imbalance. Power here is provisional. Mastery is temporary. Collapse is imminent.

Formally, the work draws lineage from the political iconography of postwar American art recalling the flag works of Warhol, the aggressive abstraction of Franz Kline, and the myth-stripping strategies of Richard Prince and Banksy. Yet Great American Rodeo rejects irony in favor of confrontation. There is no celebration of dominance only exposure of the violence and endurance required to maintain it.

Within the GODS MGMT program, the painting operates as a contemporary history painting: America as arena, identity as performance, belief as risk. The rodeo becomes a metaphor for a nation constantly riding forces it claims to command capital, power, masculinity, spectacle while knowing it may be thrown at any moment.

Great American Rodeo reframes the American Dream not as destiny, but as endurance: a continuous act of staying mounted while the ground shifts beneath you.
