Champion immortalizes a defining moment in motorsport history, recontextualized through GODS MGMT’s conceptual lens. Set against the iconic curves of Spa-Francorchamps, the work is a collision of nostalgia and branding — where speed, spectacle, and symbolism merge on the tarmac. The lone Formula 1 car, branded McLaren Marlboro, is not just a machine but a surrogate for post-war masculinity, corporate dominance, and national pride. The canvas is flooded with era-defining sponsors – Goodyear, Marlboro, Champion — turning the race into a battlefield of advertising empires. It is both homage and critique: a romanticized vision of competition wrapped in the semiotics of consumerism.

Drawing from Pop Art’s fixation on commercial logos (Warhol’s Brillo, Hamilton’s collages), Champion also channels the cool detachment of Gerhard Richter’s blurred photorealism. But GODS MGMT injects velocity and precision where others may freeze time. The painting becomes a meditation on the mythology of “winning” — asking who defines a champion, and at what cost. In the tradition of conceptual appropriation, Champion places the viewer at the edge of a curve — both literally and ideologically — where capitalism, sport, and identity take a sharp turn.
